2010 - PresentPostdoctoral Research Fellowship, through the Department of Pathology, in collaboration with the Department of Neuroscience and Department of Radiology (Nuclear Medicine). Projects: Neurological complications of cerebral malaria / Cerebral Malaria: Mechanisms of disease and neurological salvage / Investigating the potential role of Endothelin in the vasculopathy of cerebral malaria - Conducted experiments to study the physiopathology and neurocognitive alterations of cerebral malaria. - Examined the contribution of endothelin-1 in mouse neuronal and astrocytic cell disturbances as they contribute to insulin signaling and dysfunction. - Performed immunoblotting and western blot techniques to study the pathway of the disease. - Utilized light and confocal microscopy to perform histological analysis and determine pathological alterations. - Correlated alterations in signaling pathways to disease outcome using different imaging studies to examine the structural changes in the brains of infected mice. - Used Near Infrared Imaging (NIRF) techniques to examine the impact of cerebral malaria infection with in-vivo and ex-vivo samples, to understand inflammation progression, matrix metalloproteinases activity and blood brain barrier integrity. - Used positron emission tomography (PET) and computerized tomography (CT) studies to understand metabolic changes in experimental cerebral malaria, employing AsiPro and PMOD Software Systems. - Assisted in the mentoring of two PhD students.
